Finishing Up Winding Down

At the end of a long day, we will all be tired. But wait! There’s still work to be done!

The recording process demands superhuman concentration, and often we get so wrapped up in the process that we neglect that there’s more to a finished product than just the fun part. I too, get excited about your work, but most likely you will be in the studio just a couple of times this year, so of course you want to squeeze every last drop out of it. But I will be back here tomorrow, and the next day, and the next client is just as hungry for success as you are. So please remember a few things:

I will be more than happy to bounce rough mixes of everything we’ve done to a CD for you to listen to at home. Don’t forget that both Pro Tools and analog recording bounce in real time. This means that if you’ve recorded an hour’s worth of material, just bouncing will take an hour. That’s not including setup and tweaking… Often at the end of a day we’re looking at a couple of hours just to make rough mixes. Overtime will be billed.

Please remind me to make a final backup of the day’s work before we shut down! Backups, backups, backups!

Please take your empty bottles with you. I know, there’s a deposit on them and if I collect all those bottles, pack them into sacks, haul them in my bicycle trailer down to the drink shop, and turn them in- all of which will take me several hours- I will get a couple of free beers out of the deal! Thanks, but no thanks.

When our session is done, if I’ll be sending you the bill, I’ll give you an idea of what to expect (or maybe I’ll give you the bill right away). That’s a good time to make sure that we have each other’s addresses and phone numbers and all the rest, and let’s stay in touch!

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you soon.
